How to mark the spot.

Marking the spot is simple. I find that electric fencing posts are handy.

But any stick, stone or even a paint mark will do.

The next thing is to fix that spot as a point in the known universe.

These days GPS makes this easy.

The key thing is to acknowledge that I am reversing the usual process here.

Normally a site survey is done and then lines to represent the form of the new place are drawn over that survey.

Instead, I am establishing the point on the ground that feels right, and then building the site data around it.

This will become clear later on.
